White Spot Syndrome Virus in Bangladesh

Shrimp aquaculture is the most promising field and shrimp export is the second highest foreign currency earning source in Bangladesh. The rapid growth and expansion of shrimp culture worldwide are greatly hampered due to White Spot Syndrome Disease (WSSD) caused by double stranded DNA virus named White Spot Syndrome Virus (WSSV). In Bangladesh, every year it causes hundreds of million dollar loss.

In this project the study to investigate the occurance of WSSV in shrimp culture in coastal belt of Bangladesh and to establish a quick diagnostic method was successfully done. Now the focus of this research work is to establish a feasible vaccine against WSSV.
