Md. Anwar Hossain is the leader of the Microbial Genetics and Bioinformatics Laboratory. He obtained his PhD in 1991 from the Department of Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry, University of Tokyo, Japan and completed his Post-doctoral researches from SUNBOR, Japan and the University of Medicine and Dentistry- Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey, USA. Dr. Hossain became Professor in March 1997 and was the former chairman of Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka. He has been serving in different administrative positions in different public and private universities and post-graduate colleges.
He is the founder co-chair & currently the Vice- president of Asian Food Safety and Security Association (AFSSA). He is the national expert member of the National Task Force on Biotechnology for Bangladesh. Dr. Hossain is a board of governors and council member in Bangladesh Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR). He has received the Best Researcher Award 2011 from University Grant Commissions, Bangladesh.
Dr. Hossain has been working as a dedicated researcher and is currently leading several projects such as – (i) FMDV in Bangladesh: Genome analysis and Vaccine development’; (ii) Environmental Antibiotics and Resistant Gene Pool Pollutions: Its Impact on dissemination of Drug Resistance, and (iii) Food Hygiene and Foodborne Pathogens in Bangladesh. He is supervising as the co-principal investigator of the project “Arsenic Microbiome and its’ application in Bioremediation of As-Pollution”. (Download CV)
